Bon Jovi's New Album Released in Fall

After a four-year break, Bon Jovi is set to issue their 15th album, Bon Jovi: 2020. This is their first album since 2016's This House is Not for Sale.

Recorded since last year:

Bon Jovi had been recording the album since March of last year. As it is, only one single, Unbroken has been released among twenty-three songs recorded. While the album is near complete, its release from May is being pushed back until November. As well, the promotional tour has also been cancelled due to the COVID-19 outbreak, and the band said that the album will be released closer to when they will be able to tour again.

It's nearly all politics

One thing that is intriguing about this album, folks is that it is socially conscious. All the songs on the album have been written about certain themes. As an example, the lead single, Unbroken, is an ode to soldiers suffering from PTSD while Story of my Life is a mere-autobiography about John Bon Jovi's family.

Lower the Flag is an interesting song. It was written about the 2019 Dayton shooting and actually sees Jovi paying respect to Crosby, Stills, Nash, and Young's 1971 hit, Ohio, that Neil Young wrote in the aftermath of the Kent State Shootings. The song even had a working title of Four Dead in Ohio, but was later changed as the words, "lower the flag," were the first and last line of the song. Also of note is the fact that Lower the Flag is drumless. Tico Torres realized that drums did not fit well into the song, and in my opinion, it pays an homage to Mr. Young as believe it or not folks, most of his performances feature just him with a guitar or piano. Just take a look at his 2011 Toronto comeback concert.

On a side note, lowering the flag is an American tradition usually done to honor fallen heroes.

Bon Jovi also addressed the issue of migrants with the track Blood in The Water. To this John Bon Jovi said, and I quote, "Migrants who come to Italy or those who arrive in America from Mexico are looking for a better life. Yet we hear ignorant comments, I don't give a damn, let's send them back."

The Title

On a final note, Bon Jovi revealed that the title, Bon Jovi: 2020, was chosen for two reasons. First, the title reflects Bongovi's realiziation of the vision for the album after This House... dealt with personal issues. Second, it's because 2020 is an election year.

Need I mention that This House, was issud around the time of the last election? Politics galore!
