Super Bowl Halftime Show: Should It Be More Rock?
Yesterday I watched Super Bowl Halftime Show, something I usually don't do. The show got me thinking about the quality and content of halftime shows, and it got me thinking: Do the halftime shows perhaps need more rock?

This, for those that didn't see, is a photo of Shakira performing at the halftime show. Now, while I understand that being set in Miami, the desire was to pay respect to the Latin roots of the area; however, that aside, I do think that it would be appropriate to feature acts that are a little more "legendary."
Here's the lowdown.
To start, take a look at the list of halftime show performers in the century so far.
XXXIV - Phil Collins/Christina Aguilera/Enrique IglesiasToni Braxton
XXXV - Aerosmith/Britney Spears/Mary J. Blige/Nelly/N'Sync
XXXVI - U2
XXXVII - No Doubt/Shania Twain/Sting
XXXVIII - Janet Jackson/P Diddy/Nelly/Kid Rock/Justin Timberlake/Jessica Simpson (most remembered for offensive language contraversy)
XXXIX - Paul McCartney
XL - The Rolling Stones
XLI - Prince
XLII - Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers
XLIII - Bruce Springsteen
XLIV - The Who
XLV - The Black Eyed Peas/Usher/Slash
XLVI - Madonna/Nicki Minaj/LMFAO/Cee-Lo Green
XLVII - Beyonce
XLIV - Bruno Mars/Red Hot Chilli Peppers
XLIX - Katy Perry & Lenny Kravitz
50 - Coldplay
LI - Lady Gaga
LII - Justin Timberlake
LIII - Maroon 5
LIV - Jennifer Lopez / Shakira
Repeat Performers
Looking at this list, we can see that many acts have played more than once. For example, Nelly was there in 2001 and in 2004. However, it's a big however, in the last decades, classic bands have decreased drastically. While some of these have been offered to play, many have declined. In fact, the Boss did not believe in the legitimacy of the halftime show, and so declined repeated offers.
Who should take to the Superbowl Stage in the Future?
Personally, I feel that we should see more legends performing at the Super Bowl. This is only a partial list of who I think deserves the bill. Also, all these artists are my personal opinion only.
Neil Young/CSNY
Ozzy Osbourne/Sabbath
Deep Purple
Bon Jovi (offered in 2008, declined)
Van Halen
Joan Jett & The Blackhearts
Styx
Metallica
Guns'N'Roses
Journey
Eric Clapton
Foreigner
